Is robotic joint replacement right for me?

What happens during robotic joint replacement?

Prior to robotic joint replacement at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Center, follow all pre-surgery instructions. Avoid foods and drinks the morning of surgery if your specialist recommends it, don’t smoke, and stop taking certain medications if asked to do so.

You’re given anesthesia to numb the lower part of your body or general anesthesia to make you fall asleep. During surgery, your specialist uses a robotic arm to make incisions, repair or

replace worn-down joints, and close the incisions. Afterward, you rest in a recovery area for a few hours.

What should I expect after my surgery?

You might be able to go home the same day as robotic joint replacement or stay a night or two in the surgery center. Ice the treatment area, avoid using the affected joint until your doctor gives you the okay, take medications as directed, and get plenty of rest. 

Slowly increase activity, participate in physical therapy right away, and attend follow-up appointments as scheduled.
